1.) Not having a Clear The Goal
I can’t stress this point enough. If you do not have a clear idea of what you’d like to accomplish during your offsite conference it is easy for everything to go wrong. Make sure you know the goals you’re trying to reachor you’ll be wasting your time, energy, and even your company’s cash!
2) Selecting A Site That Is Not Suitable
The location you choose will determine the success or failure of your event! When choosing the venue be sure to think about the goals you wish to accomplish while you consider what you are able to invest in. If you’re able to take your team to another country absolutely take it, as we are surrounded by gorgeous islands such as Bintan, Malaysia, Batam, Indonesia. If you’ve got more money take your team there to Bali, Phuket, Vietnam and even Macau! With cheap airlines all around – there’s no reason to not go. If you are not, there are numerous venues that you can pick among in Singapore. Select city locations if the business isn’t located there , and vice versa to change the scenery.
3) Not having interesting things to do
Too many “Free and Easy” slots in your schedule may be too monotonous for your group. If it’s “Free and Easy” everybody is doing their own thing – which leaves that “bonding”? The process of organizing interesting activities could be a problem for certain. You can’t please everyone, however it is possible to organize events that everyone will take pleasure in. If you’re in a large group and you want to organize a variety of fun activities for your group, find a skilled facilitator for team building, or pick the right venue with plenty of exciting recreational activities that your group can take part in.
4) There are too many things To Complete In One Day
On the other side of the spectrum, be careful not to pack too many activities your group can accomplish within one day. Meetings in the morning and team building can be performed in half-day or full day . Do not add more games to play on the following day, or later in the night! This will be too much for everyone to manage. The goal is to help your team members to relax Remember?
5) Making the wrong choice when selecting the right Speaker for The Meeting
If you are planning an offsite Meeting it is important to have a speaker who will motivate and inspire your group. If you choose a bad speaker, and the entire event will be a failure. Select a speaker that is entertaining and gets the crowd excited. The goal is to create a sense of excitement and motivation!
6) Organising Offsites During the weekend or on a public Holiday
The Offsite occurring during the weekend or on a public holiday can be devastating as resorts tend to be busy during the weekend. This is not even mentioning the increased rates on weekends for accommodations and other facilities. Make sure you don’t to limit your staff’s time off on weekends or rest days with their families unless the group is young without any family commitments there are many who decide to stay home.
7) Are You Not Receiving Feedback From Your Team
After every Offsite Meeting – always get comments from the team. What was successful and what wasn’t so great and how can you improve in the next meeting. Inability to implement what was discussed at Offsite Meetings is an additional “no-no”. The goal is for everyone to to collaborate better after having returned from Offsite retreat. This is why you should begin to implement your concepts quickly!
