Kathy Brown van Zutphen, Attorney in Gulfport, MS
I was licensed to practice law in Alabama in 1997 and in Mississippi in 1999; so I have had nineteen years of diverse experience to call upon to solve your legal issues. I began my law career with a large firm defending companies in litigation. My father developed Parkinson’s Disease, however, so I had to care for him before his death and, out of necessity, I became involved in the area of “elder law” issues. Then later, I cared for my elderly aunt before her death. So, my family and personal life caused me to develop an interest in an “elder law” practice and I have now opened a “solo” law office. In addition to the trusts, estates, and conservatorships of “elder law,” I still litigate lawsuits and represent small business owners as part of my legal practice.
I have worked in diverse professional settings in the past, including as a personnel / office manager, providing financial and accounting services to companies, and as a realtor, but I have a certificate in paralegal studies and have spent my recent career in the legal field. I worked as a legal secretary for the Louisiana Department of Labor-OWCA Hearings Division in Covington, LA scheduling status and mediation conferences, workers’ compensation hearings and trials. I also worked as a Dispute Resolution Specialist in the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s Office of Workers’ compensation in Covington and Harahan, LA. From approximately June 2015 to present, I have provided legal and managerial assistance to attorneys as a paralegal.
